Freeze Dry is a rare Drake card.

Costs 1 energy. When played:

1. Attack for 1 with Pierce, that inflicts 1 Engine Lock on hit.

1. Attack for 2 with Pierce (+1), that inflicts 1 Engine Lock on hit.

1. Attack for 2 with Pierce (+1), that inflicts 2 Engine Lock on hit (+1).
2. Move 2 spaces to the right.

Exhausts when played.

Strategy

Freeze Dry is one of the more unique Drake cards. It has Pierce but is otherwise quite dissimilar to many Drake cards, aspiring to lock the enemy in place, move out of the way, then get a "breather" turn where the enemy isn't attacking you to build up Shield, Evade, and other buffs. It obviously pairs well with Evade, as that's something you both need to get this breather, and something you can build while the enemy ship is locked. Other good synergies are Corrosion Beam, Seeker Missile, or major buffs like Ace, Strafe, or Payback. This is interesting since Drake doesn't have a lot of Evade or any of the aforementioned synergies, really. It's perhaps one of Drake's cards that needs the least support from other of her cards, but really needs synergies with your other crew members to be effective.

Its A upgrade adds 1 damage, which many other upgrades do too.

Its B upgrade adds 1 damage and 1 to the duration of the lock, and, importantly, moves you 2 to the right, helping you get out of the way so that you can enjoy those turns where the enemy is stuck - tremendous value for the upgrade. It does make it Exhaust too, but this long pause will often be enough time to get you set up for victory.
