Jumper Cables is an artifact that gives you Temp Shield equal to your missing hull at the start of combat.

Strategy

At the very least, it makes it quite unlikely you'll die on turn 1. If you're missing a significant amount of hull, it covers your defense for the first turn, allowing you to stockpile Evade or Shield, or simply rush down the enemy, giving you a head start.
